Elementary Class Reflection
I have loved working with me third grade class at my host school. I feel I have learned so much from the students and my teacher. My teacher has taught me how to create lessons, the way she creates her lessons, and what aspects she finds most effective in creating lessons. She has shown me the curriculum they are required to teach and how she implements the curriculum into her lessons.
In her lessons she has modeled for me how to teach a mini lesson and spend most of the class time doing interactive activities and teaching through talking to each kid as they work and fix any confusion. She allows students to do activities often, which is the way I want to teach my class. I loved how she teaches writing and reading. She does a great job at teaching the students certain crafts through other books and allowing them time to practice the craft. I also love how she uses games in math to help the kids practice new concepts. My host teacher also allows students opportunity to use technology with their writing, such as posting on the class blog as well as other projects.
My teacher also incorporates art into their writing time. She allows them to make comics occasionally during writing time and draw pictures to go with their stories. She also has them do illustrations during certain stories or poems that they write as they are working on their final drafts.
I have loved my field class and having the opportuinty to work with my teacher, who I find to be an amazing teacher. In field alone, I have learned the most in my college career and have loved every second. She has taught me how to teach in a way that the students love and understand.

. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I would love to use different styles of art for writing prompts. I want to use art in helping the kids to make the connection to what we learned to an activity that helps them to remember and better understand the topic. I would love to use art in Social Studies as well, in teaching of certain eras and how art influenced (such as quilts used in Underground Railroad) as well as cultural activities were art helps students better understand the material. I think giving students the opportunity to use art in writing, social studies, and all topics will help them to be engaged and to better love and understand material.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I know integration is used to teach multiple subject areas together to help students to better understand the information. I believe integration occurs so much that integrating in class will help our students to observe how this occurs in real life and how to make connections.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I feel through this class I became more comfortable in making art and doing so using different styles and materials. I feel more comfortable using certain materials as well as style that I tend to favor but am more willing to try new things and attempt to create more art.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
Using VTS has helped me to think and analyze art in a way I had not thought of and does make me more comfortable to sharing my thoughts and opinions about art.
