Pink stated, “The essence of the aptitude of story-context enriched by emotion” (Pink, 2005). I do believe that art tells a story through the emotions and thought of the artist. I believe my collage, the first piece we did best portrayed this. The collage was a story of what my life has been and what I hope it to become, it is about all I hope to experience and accomplish. I used pictures of the Taj Mahal because I have been to India but also includes pictures of Venice, Prague, as well as other destinations I wish to go. I included passions I have, such as animals, gardening among other interests. I collaged the images in a way that some were more of a background similar to art by Bang(Bang, 2000). In his art of the wolf he put the trees in the background in black and the wolf in purple to distinguish the difference and emphasis of the wolf. I tried to put emphasize of the objects in front of the background such as the Taj Mahal. This was my favorite of our pieces.
In the fairy tale artwork I again tried to emphasize certain parts of the art, such as Thumbelina and the writing of the tale of Thumbelina to tell the story behind the art in a very literal way. As Bang used certain colors to represent emotions in regards to Red Riding Hood and her mother by showing relation and the emotions portrayed I tried to do the same (Bang, 2000). I used blues and pinks to represent the softness of Thumbelina’s personality and the situation she was in, being kidnapped. I still wanted to have a mystical feel to the artwork. I used pastels to show the softness and the wallpaper as well. I chose the butterfly to represent her skirt which I thought was fitting because the butterfly too was a prisoner and of good nature like Thumbelina. I enjoyed this project as well.
The Disney character piece was interesting as well. I used bold colors to represent Arial’s bravery and wonder in the world. I used two sheets of drawing paper to represent the ocean and blues and watercolor to emphasize the importance of the sea in her life. I bolded her eyes which I found to be most important because it is through seeing and discovering that she is so curious and began her adventure. I enjoyed the process of this piece as well.
